Wanted: Corn Thieves

We just got back from a week at the cabin, we had so much fun camping, fishing, boating, and four- wheeling. But... we came home to find someone had eaten some of our sweet corn! Those darn raccoons!! Our corn is not quit ready but the coons ate it anyway. Tonight we put a radio out there, which is said to work to keep those raccoons away. We would love to hear any ideas to keep the coons away and to save what corn we have.

No ideas on how to curb the raccoon's appetite for corn...but that little fellow in the picture even LOOKS sneaky!LOL

They are so stinking cute... but so bad to have around! I've never had to deal with them, yet. Good Luck and hope the radio works!

Oh dear, sorry about that... if the area is fenced you could leave your dog out to keep the raccoons away. There was a big family of raccoons living on the property when we moved here and our dog chased them off for good.
Good dog!

Also I have read that human urine (male) sprinkled around the area will keep critters away. (or as fertilizer too) Haven't tried either of these ideas. Google that for more info. Good luck.

Callie,
Thanks for the advise... we did check out Google. That's where we got the radio idea! It worked last night! So far so good.

Hey! thanks for leaving a comment on my blog...looks like chooks worldwide do all of the same things, mind you in our English "summer" weather its more a case of keeping warm rather than keeping cool!

Mind you, at least we haven't got racoons to worry about!

Love from Henny xx

oh no! :( We have been very lucky to not have had this problem, this year. But I have friends who have had coons stealing their corn too! :(

Oh, my. Must be the week for raccoon and corn. Diane over at Peaceful Acres had the same thing happen. Are y'all neighbors or anything?

At least they didn't eat your CHICKENS!

It's too bad that such beautiful creatures have to be such nuisances! I had a pet raccoon once that I raised from a baby and she was absolutely awesome. Now, I don't want to see a coon around my property...

The Shepherd used a deer repellent spray all around our corn patch after they ate his first picking. He got it at the feed store. Good luck. T.
